POTCAKES

The Potcake is our symbol.  It is a mixed-breed, wild dog marooned in the Caribbean and the Turks and Caicos Islands centuries ago.  It is thought that the Arawak dogs mixed with European dogs and American dogs that arrived with Loyalists during the revolutionary war period. Potcake refers to congealed rice and beans they dined for years at the bottom of pots and pans left outside after cooking.  These dogs form possies, friendships, roles and characters long lost to their domestic brothers and sisters.  A survivor, a thriver and forever wild and free in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
